Technical FAQs
What is the difference between Mighty Mite and Powersound PU?

Both pickups are manufactured by Cort and are used on Cort electric guitars & Basses. The main difference between the two pickups is in the magnet. The MightyMite pickups use the Alnico 5 magnet for a clearer and mellower tone. In contrast, the PowerSound pickups use the ferrite ceramic magnets for a thicker and raw-sounding tone.

What is coil split?

Some Cort models have coil split system which gives you both Humbucker and single coil sound with 4 countuctor Humbucker PU and both Push Pull or mini toggle. Basically, the coil-split cuts out one of the coils on a dual-coil humbucking pickup and converts it to a single-coil pickup.

What function does the Slap Contour Switch perform on the Curbow and the Funkmachine basses?

Main fuction of this switch is readjusting the EQ contour to transform the tone of the bass to ideally suit for the slapping and popping. Although it's possible to do this with standard EQ control knobs, this switch allows to change the mode very quickly without delaying.

What is the Luthite body material used on the Curbow basses?

The Luthite material was developed by our New Materials Development Department wich is not wood. It is a composite material that mimics the sonic characteristics of wood. It has a certain tonal character since it's composite, but that composite character may be desirable for certain kinds of sounds. The dominant sonic character of Luthite can be described as powerful, focused, punchy, and very clear. This is ideal for slapping and popping on the bass, which is what the Curbow excels at. Plus, Luthite is very light in weight as well.

Can I string my Cort acoustics with medium gauge strings?

We have been using D'Addario 80/20 bronze strings for many years. While strings are a matter of personal preference. It?'s as easy as changing strings to try for yourself and see where your taste lies. The dreadnoughts and jumbos are all fine with medium or light gauge strings. But small-bodied guitars are braced lightly. So, small-bodied guitars are not suited for medium gauge strings. Use of medium gauges can damage your guitar top.

How should I clean my acoustics?

We want to recommend you not to use the 'polish?' on a satin finish guitars. Use a cotton cloth slightly moistened with water to wipe and clean the body and neck. I don't advise using too much wax or guitar polish. And moisture should never be used in non-finish areas, like fingerboard and bridge. Avoid polishes containing abrasives, wax, or silicone. There are some questions about silicone and the effect it has on all finishes. We do not believe that silicone will cause any direct damage to our gloss finish.

Where should I install a strap button?

Simply, you can hang your strap on neck. It does no harms to the neck of your instrument to tie the strap on the paghead. The most popular location for a strap button is in the treble side heel of the neck down. Be sure to pre-drill the strap button hole, and the strap draws perpendicular to the button and it's very secure indeed. You can put the strap button directly in the heel cap. It's the easiest area to touch up if you remove the button later. Drill a pilot hole for my strap button screw. We strongly recommend the strap button be installed by an repair person.

What is the wrench size for truss rods? (Acoustic)

We have one type of wrench. L-shaped Allen wrenches are using, and the diameter is 4mm. (caution: not 3/16")

Temperature and Humidity

Changes in humidity are the greatest danger to your guitars. High humidity can even cause wood to swell and distort. Low humidity is also bad for guitars. You should have a room humidified to 45%~48%. Especially don't allow it to get cold and then warm too quickly. Our guitars built in factories with sufficient humidity control.
